History of the School

The School of Pure and Applied Sciences is one of the six schools of Karatina  University which was founded in the year 2013. It is headed by a Dean who guide and provide leadership on the day to day running of the school.
The school provides foundational scientific literacy that is an essential component of a broad education for all students. 
With a skeleton staff of twelve academic, three technical staff and student population of less than one hundred at inception, the school has over the years seen tremendous growth. Currently the school prides itself with over forty members of the academic staff, fifteen technical staff and approximately 1500 students.

At inception there were eight undergraduate programmes. Other programmes have been developed over time and it now has a total of nine undergraduate, seven Masters and two PhD programmes.
The School is known for high-quality education and research in the Sciences with collaborative partnerships within and outside Kenya.
Currently, the school is home to three departments namely; Mathematics, Statistics & Actuarial Science, Biological & Physical Sciences and Computer Science & Informatics
The student-centered approach of teaching at the school is geared towards ensuring that our graduates acquire high level problem solving skills, independent thinking and orient them to adapt to new situations that will confront them in the real world. In addition, it equips students with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s fast-changing and competitive workplace and open up a range of new employment opportunities.
